I hesitated to rush the photos and put the new ranges out with less than a month until Christmas, but it was definitely the right thing to do. Yesterday I sold out of one udon bowl design already! That was certainly very well received and yes there are more on the way for next year.

Most of the new designs are under the Classic Japanese Tableware menu, so please take a look before they all go.

I've gone ahead and updated the stock on the website so you can get your orders in over the weekend and we can have everything ready to start shipping orders as soon as those container doors fly open.

There are NEW THINGS in there! Which of course I haven't photographed yet, so you might want to get started with an order for your favourites but leave a little space for new dinnerware that will be up on the website and in a newsletter to you soon. Make sure you are on my mailing list so you know when to look for those.

Voted by the nations retailers, I am beyond humbled that while our lovely stockists were voting for the Kitchenware category, J Style not only popped into their minds, but they put us down as their favourite!

We are super thankful to everyone who voted because we honestly could not do this without you.

We know all too well that we can work as hard as we want, but if our stockists don't make the effort at the shopfront to display our products and sell them with love and care to their customers locally, our business wouldn't go anywhere.

Please check the ETA dates when you are pre-ordering. If something you are after has an ETA date of 28/2/26, that means all stock for this year has already been allocated to pre-orders. You can still include it in your order but you will be on a wait list for when stock arrives next year. I'll email you when it arrives and you will get priority to order then.

We've split our usual big October container in two to spread the load a bit, and to give some of our Japanese suppliers a little wriggle room get their orders ready. That means we've got stock coming next week, and I've also listed more things you can pre-order for November. Japanese tea sets, Art bowls and Kokeshi Doll spoons are all on their way in November and will likely sell out, so get your name on the wait list for these now. 

Things to order right now include the Sanrio gang - Hello Kitty, Kuromi and My Melody mugs and teapots that have been running out faster than we can keep up. Netflix's new series My Melody & Kuromi seems to have sparked everyone's interest and I predict big things for these cuties this Christmas.

Don't forget to include a few of our hand made Japanese bud vases. Always a top seller we have new designs and colours coming next week and more coming in November, so you can top up your collection with fresh designs as you go.

Actually give me a day or two because we haven't actually unpacked the container and that means I haven't photographed all the new things yet.

But if you've been waiting for back orders, the stock is live now, and if I have photos already I've put them up, so all the cute Hello Kitty, Sanrio, Winnie the Pooh, Stitch (have you seen the new movie?) are ready to go!

All the new things are under the Advance Order menu so you can find them all in one spot if you just want to head straight to the NEW things. Like I said, there will be some photos missing for a day or two, so don't rush there all at once, but you can take a peek and start planing your orders to squeeze one more in before the end of financial year.

We managed to see cherry blossoms! But I did also have to wear my down jacket regularly, so it wasn't quite the balmy spring weather I was hoping for - at least not every day.

We spent plenty of time in the mountains around Gifu, particularly hunting for everyone's favourites Mino ware and Seto ware. We rummaged around in all sorts of warehouses full of bowls and plates, all piled up precariously in rows. It was honestly a bit scary walking between them, but we managed to hunt down some beauties for your stores.

All sorts of gorgeous new things are on a ship now and should be arriving by the end of May. And we've got even more on order for later in the year, so please sign up to our newsletter to find out when they arrive.

And by the time we add in Easter and ANZAC Day at the end, our warehouse will be closed for about a month from 24 March to 25 April 2025.

Along with changing our work schedules and stepping back from the Australian Gift Fairs, we're planning to take longer trips to Japan from now on.

More time to search for beautiful products out in the countryside, meeting with the makers and spending time visiting the factories. Less rushing around like maniacs from gift fair to ceramics show, collecting business cards like it's the 1990s.

It's a slightly inconvenient time with Mother's Day soon after we get back, but with a little forward planning I'm sure you'll all manage your stock perfectly. Top up a little more than usual in early March, and you can always put your orders through the website in April so we can ship them as soon as we open up and they'll be delivered in early May.

I will take my laptop, so feel free to email me, we just won't be opening the warehouse or shipping any orders.

Now I'm going to start planning what to pack because this is the first time in about 25 years I'll be heading to Japan when the weather should be nice. We might even see cherry blossoms! I'm giddy at the thought of not packing my thermals for a January trip, and also not having to prepare for the heat and humidity of mid year. I cannot wait!

I didn't get an order on 24 December this year, but there was one placed on 22 December after we closed, and a few super early starters on 2 January. I feel for everyone who is working in retail right through the summer while I was off taking a break. I hope you managed a little time with family and friends.

Now... back to processing those orders and getting the stock out to your stores for summer sales!

Now there's just two shopping weekends until Christmas and barely time to place any more orders and get them shipped in time.

In an ideal world I won't accept any new orders after Monday and all current invoices will be paid by then too, so we can have the stock arrive in your stores before Christmas. Honestly though I'm fully expecting someone to order on the 24th of December. It happens every year!

No shame if that was you, I know sometimes it's hard to predict how well things will sell, and then you suddenly realise you won't have any stock for holiday shoppers in January. Please try and stock up a bit earlier this year!

J Style will be closed from 21 December to 12 January 2025.

If you do place an order during this time, it will be processed when we reopen on 13 January.

It's all here and unpacked now, so if you're looking at the website now, anything that says "in stock" is genuinely in stock and ready to send out.

We have one more container on the way from Japan this year, and it's been held up a bit so we could give a bit of extra time to a few suppliers and get new product in before Christmas. But it will be JUST before Christmas around the end of November. We've also been informed that customs will be checking shipments extra carefully for stink bugs this year. I know! What? It's a new thing for shipments from Japan, so we're not sure if that will delay the release of the container much or not. Hopefully not.

In any case, I'm steeling myself for delays and trying to prepare in advance as much as possible so we can get that stock out ASAP and get it on your shelves with enough time for everyone's Christmas shopping. Help me out by placing a pre-order online and we will get it all organised to go as soon as the stock lands at our warehouse.

I've listed them online now and you can pre-order to get at the top of the wait list for when they arrive.

Number One will be the Zero Teapot from The Nightmare Before Christmas. We had this cute teapot in a tea set a few years back and we're constantly being asked if we can get them again, but we thought they were discontinued and all gone. Until now! Apparently they found a stash somewhere and now they want to offload them since the rest of the series sold out ages ago. Great find for us! Many Nightmare Before Christmas fans will be very happy to hear these are back (if only briefly).

Next are some of our beloved Grumpy Cat mugs and cups. These were also super popular a few years ago despite their sour expressions, and again we thought they'd all been sold long ago. A lucky find that we can get some more - and at half the usual price! Only black cats with handles, but both black and white cats are available in the tea cup/pot with no handle. We'll take what we can get!

Pre-order any or all of these great bargains now and when the stock arrives I'll go through the wait list in order of when you place your pre-order. I can't tell you how many we'll manage to get, so if you want to be at the top of the list, send me your order now!

Sadly the classic Japanese teapots we've been selling - for what seems like a hundred years - are no longer being made, so we had to find some new ones, and these new ones are SO SWEET!

We've got some new designs and we've stuck with some of the popular classics so they will match our mugs, vases and other dinnerware.

Just a small quantity this time so if you like them be quick. More on their way before Christmas!

And yet, it's very hard to think about shopping for bowls for hot soup when the water temperature at the beach makes you feel like you're swimming in it.

Are customers put off by a shop window display that seems out of step with the weather? Or does it draw them into your store, with the promise of cooler days ahead and the airconditioning to entice them to stay a little longer?

Good merchandising should always be a step ahead. People complain about hot cross buns appearing in the supermarkets in February, or Christmas decorations in October, but it can really start to set the mood and build momentum up until the time for purchasing. Get people thinking about tea and soup and cosy dinner parties at home before the cooler weather sets in. When the time comes they will already know just where to go.

Despite all that it feels like we only left yesterday and that all the meetings, suppliers visits, trade shows and sourcing were done in a dream. I can hang up my down jacket and put away my woolly gloves for a bit and enjoy some summer warmth back in Wollongong.

Thank you for your patience while we took the extended trip. We went from Tokyo, to Nagoya, to Shikoku and Kyushu. Gifu for stoneware, Arita and Hasami for porcelain, and everywhere in between.

I am back at my desk now and we'll be shipping your orders out this week. It was lovely to be missed!

I am SO excited to finally be jetting off to Japan for my first trip in WAY too long. Sam has been by himself, but you-know-what put a hold on my plans the past few years, so I'm making the most of this chance to visit friends, family and suppliers all at once.

I'm really looking forward to some great local ceramics trade shows, and visits to our lovely suppliers. I can't wait to find all kinds of beautiful new things for you all to stock in store in 2024! Hit me up with your wish lists.

Stock is very almost nearly here. Word on the docks is it could be here Monday!

So we have less than 2 weeks to unpack the container and pack all your orders and we need your help!

I will be sending emails to everyone that has a back order over the next few days. Please keep an eye on your inboxes and help me get your orders sorted, lined up and ready to start packing as soon as the container doors swing open.

If you're just thinking about placing an order now, I have uploaded the stock to the website so it all looks like it's in stock now... but it won't really be until next week when the container arrives.

Shoot those orders through now though and we'll sort the paperwork and get your orders in the queue for rapid packing too!

By this time in December we are usually winding down, but that's 2023 for you.

AND DON'T FORGET - We will be closed for January 2024, so please order any stock you need to see you through summer now. 

What should you do?

If you were holding off on ordering, waiting for a particular item to arrive - don't hold off!

You can either;

1) Order what's available now so you have things in store in November and then back order the delayed stock for a second drop just before Christmas.

or

2) Put the order in now and request that we ship it all together in one delivery when everything arrives.

We're expecting it will be a crazy rush to get the container unpacked and orders shipped ASAP before Christmas, so if you have your order placed and paperwork done ahead of time, we can ship those orders straight out as soon as the container doors swing open.   

And now I will make a cup of tea and sit and stare out the window at the ocean hoping that container ship on the horizon is carrying something here for us. Sigh!

I have a long waiting list already and it's already getting close to the number of bowls due to arrive in October. If you want some of these absoluetly BEAUTIFUL bowls for Christmas, you really do need to send me a pre-order now and get yourself on that wait list.

This also goes for many of our collectable Disney, Warner Bros and Universal Studios teapots and mugs. Harry Potter is taking off as we near the end of the year and people are really looking for a little magic in their stockings. Stock has just arrived but is dwindling fast, so don't dilly dally your orders for these either.

New Disney, including new Winnie the Pooh designs is due in September, so keep an eye out and check the Advance Order menu for upcoming designs to pre-order.

It's been a busy few years without gift fairs, and we continue to be plenty busy filling your orders this year too.

So, why spend weeks of time prepping and exhibiting at an expensive gift fair, when we're selling out of stock without it? Exactly.

In some kind of shipping miracle, our container that was delayed for three weeks has arrived, and not only that, passed through Customs, in less than TWO weeks.

Of course the extra hands we booked to help unpack are not available earlier... so guess what we'll be doing this weekend?

The stock is now updated on the website and you can place orders, but please don't expect us to ship it tomorrow.

Between helping unpack I will be emailing everyone with a pre-order or back order. In the meantime please take a look at the NEW things! And if you want to add any to your orders shoot me an email. I've put all the new things under the Advance Order menu to make them easy to find.

There are some REALLY new things that don't have photos yet because I haven't even seen them, let alone photographed them. So don't rush your orders, give me a few days to get them out of their boxes and there will be pictures soon.

Our shipment that was due late June/first week of July has been delayed a few weeks. It's now due late July. Crossing fingers that it doesn't stretch out any later. There's particular things that have been repeatedly bumped from earlier shipments this year and we are really keen to finally get them back in stock!

Wait lists are still active and I'll be emailing an update to those with a pre-order or large back order. If you were waiting until stock was here to order, just do it now. You'll get priorty and first notice when stock arrives. And if you've changed your mind by then just let me know and I'm happy to change, add or subtract from your pre-order. There's no obilgation so you may as well get yourself on the waitlist.

Considering the last few years, this is way more exciting than it used to be. We're closing the office and will be off to Japan to find some beautiful new products for your stores.

So if you're reading this before 18/5/23, get your orders in quick! Last shipping date will be 17/5/23. Otherwise please be patient and we will process any orders you put through from 5/6/23.

You'll notice we are getting very low on stock of many items, so don't wait until after 5/6/23 to order, we'll process orders by the date they are received so limited stock will still go to the first person to place the order.

And if it's those out-of-stock items you're after, put the orders for those through now as a PRE-ORDER. Stock is due at the end of June (maybe early July depending on customs, wharf, etc etc). We'll be back from Japan and all hands on deck to unpack that container and have stock shipped ASAP to everyone who has been waiting so patiently.

You can place orders now on the website, and as soon as the container lands in our yard and gets unpacked, we'll start shipping your orders out. Plenty of time to get them on your shelves for Christmas! At this stage (touch wood) we expect to be able to start shipping from 21 November.

There will be a LOT of orders queued up to ship, so get in early and get your order to the top of that queue!

Don't forget that we will close from Christmas through the first half of January, so if you are in a holiday area or expect strong sales in January, make sure you stock up before Christmas.

Shipping delays, an unexpected public holiday and road closures for an International Cycling Race... we've had it all this week but our stock is at the port in Sydney and will be through customs and down here any day!

There are a lot of pre-booked orders in this container so there will be some delay shipping any new orders this week while we unpack the container and clear all those orders that have been waiting months already.

I'll be sending out notices soon to everyone who is waiting on back orders, but it will take us a little while to get through all those. Don't worry! If you have items on back order you're waiting for, you will still get priority for the stock over any new orders.

You will have to reset your password to use the website after 28/6/22, and unfortunately you will lose your old order history and any saved orders.

But... from now on you will be able to look up invoices as well as past orders when you log in to your account.

When you place an order please still wait for me to send the invoice by email after calculating your freight and confirming stock availability. Once that's done it should also show on the website so if you lose your email it will be there when you login.

Also, Sam is off to Japan for the first time in YEARS! As I don't have a Japanese passport myself the absolute suitcase full of paperwork I'd need to get into the country made it unfeasible for a short trip. I'm so jealous Sam will be looking for new stock by himself and eating all the food in Japan. Stay tuned for what he discovers!

It seemed like a good time to set up the new accounting system and get it all linked to the website while he's out of the way. Orders can still be placed online, I just won't be able to do anything with them for a few days, so there will be a short pause on invoicing and shipping orders.

What a year 2021!

But as always, the next year will roll around with a new set of surprises and challenges and off we go again.

Thank you to all of our wonderful stockists for putting up with stock delays and shortages and hanging in there to support us all year. We'll continue to do our best to get you the beautiful ceramics you need for your stores and - maybe (touch wood) - even get over to Japan to source some new and exciting things next year!

If we don't make it there in person, we are so happy to have strong relationships with our suppliers in Japan who have been great at sending photos and organsing things at their end without us able to be there this year. We really rely on their support too!

Well almost. The last stock drop of the year is here and we're starting to ship orders from Monday. Unbelievably the container arrived earlier than expected and cleared Customs in record time. It's a Christmas miracle!

Our next stock won't be in until at least February 2022, so now is the time to grab anything you need to see you through Summer. It's looking like it will be a busy one. Local tourism allowing, there are sure to be a lot of travellers looking for somewhere to spend their cash for a bit of retail therapy. I'll be there myself with bells on!

So - what are the big sellers you should have on your shelves?

Our licensed Disney product is flying out the door. Nostalgia and a cup of tea? Yes please!

Dining at home? Learned some new recipes for an intimate dinner party? Yes we'd like some new bowls to make it special!

Been gardening a lot more lately? Flowers in bloom? A little bud vase is perfect with a floral gift. Always very strong sellers.

Mugs, mugs, mugs! Japanese mugs are FINALLY back in stock. Get them quick before they disappear again.

Of course the quicker you get your order in, the quicker your order will be packed when the stock arrives.
